Feed Me Light was stoked with the opportunity to produce this animation video with Night Agency, for their client Kiehl’s.
The 2-minute video with 3 trailers, was to be released on Kiehl’s YouTube channel communicating the story behind their new product Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate.
Based on the key character Jim, a small quinoa husk, the video was to tell ‘A Husky Story’, or the Unexpected Skincare Triumph of a Quinoa Husk Named Jim. In the video we travel with Jim on his journey from his home on the quinoa farm to then be a fundamental ingredient in the new Kiehl’s Micro-Peel product.
Feed Me Light was able to flex their creativity and skill with this project. And flex we did.
The brief provided by the agency included a script, and from there our team were able to create a storyboard that set the tone for the characters and the video to follow.
Character Concept Development
With relative creative freedom given to the team, concept development for Jim and his friends was entertaining. We could explore and play with as many different ideas as we wished.
We worked through a series of different ideas for all of the characters before choosing to move forward with a Jim that is cute, a little bit weird but has bundles of personality.
After our little hero got picked, the rest of the character research began.
Environment Concept Development
Jim’s story took us through multiple environments that needed to be created - from the quinoa farm, to the factory, to the treadmill and testing lab.
By combining both 2D and 3D elements we were able to create a unique feel throughout.
Throughout the entire video a stop motion feel was applied which added additional quirkiness to the video style.
A slightly more difficult path to take when directing it was important to ensure that the human characters did not appear robotic, but yet felt consistent and in sync with the stop motion feel in the rest of video.

After spending so much time with Jim on a day-to-day basis over the last 3 months, it’s great to see him doing his thing as part of Kiehl’s Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate.
